What You Will Learn

This is a limited-enrollment course capped at just 10 students, hosted by Thunder Ranch at James Reeves’ Neutral Ground range in New Orleans. The small class size allows for a high level of individual coaching, direct instructor access, and a more immersive training environment than typical large-format courses.

This intensive two-day program, delivered by Thunder Ranch, focuses on the practical application of the handgun for personal defense. Built on Thunder Ranch’s proven doctrine, this course develops real-world skills in handgun manipulation, marksmanship, situational awareness, and decision-making under stress.

Jack Daniel Bio

Jack Daniel, Director of Training at Thunder Ranch and a former law enforcement officer with extensive real-world experience, will lead the range portion of the course. Drawing on decades of instruction and operational background, Jack will guide students through practical exercises designed to reinforce decision-making, efficiency, and accountability under pressure using Thunder Ranch methodology.

James Reeves Bio

James Reeves, host of TFBtv, adjunct Thunder Ranch instructor, US LawShield Program Attorney, one of Cosmopolitan Magazine’s “50 Hottest Bachelors of 2007”, and a licensed concealed handgun instructor for 14 years (NRA and Louisiana State Police), will assist Jack on the range and lead integrated classroom sessions examining real-world defensive shootings.

These case studies focus on what actually happens before, during, and after a use of force, including legal exposure, investigative realities, and how otherwise justified shootings can go sideways.

Depending on applicable state requirements, this course will satisfy the training requirement for a Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit, and may qualify for resident or non-resident concealed carry licensing or training credit. (Verify the requirements of your state in advance.)

Thunder Ranch instructors will translate these lessons directly to the range, recreating elements of real incidents and reinforcing decision-making under stress, not to mention give you a 1:5 instructor:student ratio for improving your pistol skills.

This is not a basic handgun class. We politely ask that members who enroll have at least a fundamental understanding of range safety and pistol manipulation and marksmanship. This is a combined legal and intermediate-to-expert practical training program designed to prepare students for the full reality of armed self-defense.

Expect a fast-paced environment, proven doctrine, candid instruction, and a course that emphasizes thinking as much as shooting. A group dinner/beers will follow the conclusion of the course.
